Take a tour of Kissamos Gulf by departing from the port of Kissamos, and enjoy a scenic 55-minute journey across the area. Admire the huge cave believed to be the ancient shipyard near the Roman city of Agneion and the Temple of Apollo, while keeping an eye out for sea turtles, Mediterranean seals and dolphins.
Near the end of the gulf, witness an impressive geological phenomenon where the western part of the island is elevated, while the eastern part is sunk. This phenomenon resulted from catastrophic earthquakes that took place in 66 AC and 365 BC. You can still see the ancient shoreline today as a black trace along the rocky coast.
With the departures that going Balos & Gramvousa (10:40) you have the oportunity to reach the small port of Gramvousa, where you can disembark and explore the famous Venetian castle built in 1579. Take a 20-minute walk to the castle's highest point and enjoy the panoramic view, the imposingness and the legend of the hidden pirate treasure. You can also swim at the beach next to the small church of Saint Apostles or relax on the boat, which has a restaurant-bar open all day long.
After the 1-hour & 40-min visit to Gramvousa, the boat will depart for the lagoon of Balos, which is one of the most beautiful places in Greece. Spend around 2.5 hours at the lagoon, swimming and enjoying the fantastic scenery. You can also relax and swim around the ship while enjoying pleasant music and refreshments from the bar on board.
The visit to each place can be done the other way around, i.e. first Balos and then Gramvousa, or first Gramvousa and then Balos, depending on the number of visitors. The alternation of destinations occurs to avoid overcrowding in these NATURA areas.
Make sure to bring your camera and snorkeling gear to capture the unforgettable moments and enjoy the southern Mediterranean landscape. Please be respectful of the flora and fauna, which includes loggerhead turtles, wild donkeys and Mediterranean monk seals.
Fun fact: Prince Charles and Princess Diana once swam in the crystal clear waters of Balos during their honeymoon, adding a royal twist to this magical place!
